Might be, but it would be under Chinese mainland rule.

I still remember back in the 80's where vibrant Hong Kong was a dream of freedom for a kid who loves Kung Fu movies. But back then, there were not many skyscrapers like today. Today, everyone build higher since the land is limited.

On the economic side, Hong Kong has been known for its financial and trade sectors. It's a logistic port and the best place to transit in east Asia. Outside that, the society is moving toward a more technological base. But with Shanghai and Shenzhen is not far behind, it's getting harder and harder to compete with the mainland as the cost of living is higher in Hong Kong.
